The Sky Is Mostly Clear for Matthew Turner’s “Cloudy”

In response to Matthew Turner’s 498‑word review of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 on ViewLondon

By ,

The forecast is clear with a only slight chance of rain in Matthew Turner’s “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2.” Apart for a few missteps, Turner delivers a worthy review.

ViewLondon’s skeleton is showing. No, really. They’ve done away with any subtlety and just structured their reviews rigidly, with categories like “What’s it all about?”,” The Good”, “The Bad”, and “Worth Seeing?” The idea is to take the work out of actually reading a review and instead letting readers jump to whatever relevant info they need.

And all the relevant info is here. Turner gives the rundown of the plot, outlines the characters, and dives into a critique that doesn’t dig too deep (i. e. “the characters are likable” but the jokes aren’t “laugh-out-loud” funny), but offers enough insight to legitimately be called criticism.

Turner’s writing is fairly pedestrian in tone and there’s no sizzle, but the piece is competent enough to make it work at least on one level.

The rigid structure could have been limiting (and may just be in other reviews), but here it works just fine. This one’s got all the required parts to work and will please most casual readers looking for a simple, straightforward review.
