The Forecast Is Murky in Rich Cline’s “Cloudy”

In response to Rich Cline’s 366‑word review of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 on

Rich Cline’s “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 Movie Review” is a mostly forgettable affair and offers nothing of real consequence to warrant a recommendation.

There’s clearly a smart, thoughtful writer here, but a lack of fluidity lends the piece a clunky, discordant feel.

Cline’s moments of brilliance are few and far between and don’t add enough buoyancy to lift the rest of the piece out of mediocrity. Like the film, “there’s nothing to engage us on a more satisfying level” and that flatness is felt throughout the work.

Some of the puns Cline attempts work well but others make the crickets sing and nothing kills a tone like a feeble quip which happens too frequently here.

Cline praises the “gorgeously detailed” animation and the “snappy” voice cast, but gives the movie bad marks for reasons that will puzzle readers.

His critiques are empty at best and perplexing at their worst, saying the film “leaves us slightly bored”, but then following that up with “wildly eclectic humour makes sure that both kids and grown-ups will never stop laughing.”

The lackluster tone, the failure to maintain clarity, and a disjointed feel all conspire to keep this one off the chef’s specials.
