Matthew Razak delivers a shrewd performance in “Review: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.” The critic is honest with the curious reader from start, and admits that he never wanted to see the original film and still has not.

Razak can weave a brilliant tale on the sequel as a stand-alone. He brings a new perspective to the film, a completely fresh look, unlike most of his peers who approach the experience hungry to compare the sequel to the original.

Review: Cloudy with acknowledges the creativity of the film, but Razak effectively examines the authenticity and seeks to protect his loyal readers from pain and disappointment. He narrative is fresh, thought-provoking and brilliantly aware of the sharp hooks of Hollywood.

On the flip side, the plot description is devastatingly weak and detracts from the overall argument. The reader will undoubtedly be reminded of the critic’s opening statements, and be saddened by the uninformative examination of plot, characters and jokes.

To be fair, Razak is able to construct a tight argument in Review: Cloudy with, and he does so with prose that is commanding and clean. The critic delivers an entertaining commentary on the industrial subtext and closes out his argument with memorable and piercing words. The reader may wipe sweat from the brow after the intense conclusion.
