Alicia Malone’s “A NICE SECOND HELPING” is a light, breezy affair that fits the tone of its subject, the kids’ movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.  It has a colorful and attractive layout, with a video review cleverly embedded in the header graphic and video and pictures throughout the review that enhance it without significantly interrupting the flow of the text.

There are a few flaws with the review worth noting. For instance: Malone’s repeated use of the groan-inducing portmanteau “puntastic,” which shows up in the text review, the video review, and the interview with the actors that is embedded halfway through, and speaks to a lack of verbal creativity.

The review reads more like an advertisement than a piece of film criticism. It is a lot of sunshine and pats on the back with little in the way of caveats. Still, the enthusiasm seems to be genuine so that can be forgiven to an extent.

Overall, “A NICE SECOND HELPING” is a fun romp that can be read by kids and adults alike. It’s bright, colorful, easy to read, and conveys a real sense of enthusiasm about its subject. Despite its flaws, it is a delightful family movie review.
