Kurt Loder’s “Lee Daniels’ The Butler and Kick-Ass 2“clocks in at a bloated 1589 words. More than half of that time is spent focusing on Lee Daniels’ The Butler giving Kick-Ass 2 short shrift. Though double features such as this one have a tendency to opt for quantity over quality, Loder does a respectable job of not sounding rushed.

In the end, the portion dedicated to Kick-Ass 2 is little more than a long summary of the movie’s plot with a prediction tagged on the end. It isn’t a spectacular or memorable performance, though it isn’t as disposable as other similar attempts.

The writing is average and the insight follows suit. There are brief attempts at humor when he describes some of the characters but they fail to result in laughter. Not even one chuckle is to be had.

Loder gets caught a handful of times with his hand in the previous film’s cookie jar. He finally acknowledges some sort of direct opinion for this movie but it reads too late.

He comes off as still being preoccupied over movie number one. He also makes a strange plea for a third movie. In the end, his lack of focus leads to an almost entire disregard of the middle movie.
