Dennis Schwartz Channels Ed Wood in “Banal and Venal Story”

In response to Dennis Schwartz’s 150‑word review of The Wolf of Wall Street on Ozus' World Movie Reviews

The heart always lifts a bit when a new Dennis Schwartz review appears on the horizon. The birds seem to chirp a little louder, the breeze feels a little more refreshing, and even the dogs seem aware of the occasion and stop their incessant crapping on the lawn.

Taking on Ed Wood’s mantle of unintentional hilarity, Schwartz never fails to disappoint and “It takes three hours to tell a banal and venal story that held my attention for fifteen minutes” is no exception—even the absurd title sounds like an Ed Wood-sian “Night of the Banshee Cocktail Waitress.”

This may be Schwartz’s Plan 9 From Outer Space. It’s got everything: run-on sentences, syntax that will make you question your sanity, word choice that drops every hackneyed cliché in the book, and bizarre critique that could only come from a mind such as his.

To put the cherry on top of this poop sundae is Schwartz’s righteous tirade against Wall Street in which he drops the f-bomb. Delicious.

If you’re a fan of the so-bad-it’s-good genre, change all those ratings to 5s across the board. If not, for the love of all that is good and holy, stay away from this steaming pile of detritus.
