Sean Means “Meatballs” Is Bland and Flavorless

In response to Sean Means’s 143‑word review of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 on Salt Lake Tribune

By ,

Sean Means, in his review, “Movie review: More food fun in ‘Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2’”, describes the film as “more than just leftovers.”

If only his review felt less like those week-old leftovers in your fridge that warrant the ‘ole sniff test to see if they’re still edible.

Means’s offering is hardly a meal; there’s only enough here for one or two bites and then it’s over.

And those couple bites aren’t very filling or especially pleasing to the palette.

Means’s writing leaves a lot to be desired; it’s so stoically matter-of-fact as to be dull. He gives the facts without adding one iota of verbal seasoning to help it go down, using the bulk of his review needlessly rehashing plot points and describing the characters.

What little critique Means offers is cursory at best. He tells readers the directors “throw lots of jokes on the screen, and a surprising number of them stick” in this “frenetic and colorful tale.” Hardly an exhaustive analysis.

This is exceedingly lazy work and this tiny review could be forgiven had Means packed it full of worthwhile content, but he’s taken the easy route here. Skip this one and seek out more flavorful offerings.
