Linda Barnard “Cloudy Chance of Meatballs 2” Is an Order of Average

In response to Linda Barnard’s 584‑word review of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 on Toronto Star

In Linda Barnard’s review “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2: set phasers to pun” readers are given a taste of the average. This review contains strong writing techniques that are mundanely used to expound on extended amounts of summary recollection.

The tragedy of phasers to pun is that it begins with so much promise. An intro into who provided the voices of the animated characters, the rating of the film, and a gripping start into what the film will contain will have readers believing they are in for a special treat.

This anticipation slowly dwindles as the review devolves entirely into summation, leaving readers feeling force fed a plate of the obvious.

The title of the review is misleads the reader into believing they are about to experience something witty, clever, and punny in a self-aware way. This is sadly not the case, as only a single sentence comments on the jokes and puns of the film, offering none of its own.

With the conclusion of this review the reader will be left wondering how Barnard actually feels about the film. Each positive thought is followed up with a negative one and vice versa. The final product is a dry and disappointing experience, devoid of direction and leaving the audience stranded.
