Robin Clifford’s Not Ready for Prime Time in “Ender’s Game”

In response to Robin Clifford’s 512‑word review of Ender’s Game on Reeling Reviews

Robin and Laura Clifford, the husband and wife team that make up Reeling Reviews, don’t appear to have any semblance of self awareness. If they did, they’d treat their podcast and site, which looks like a relic from the early 90s (complete with a tiled, low-res clipart background) with a touch of irony or at least a knowing wink at the audience.

Instead, the Cliffords take this very seriously and their earnestness just makes this all the more embarrassingly cringe worthy.

Okay, so not everyone who decides to pursue their passion (as the Cliffords are clearly doing here) has the resources to make it look and feel like Time Magazine, but in this day and age, there’s really no excuse for a presentation like this that does nothing to inspire confidence in the material.

Now, if the material were exceptional, they could be forgiven for their GeoCities site, but that’s sadly not the case. This is sub par to mediocre work that echoes the amateurish visuals. The critique is shallow and cursory at best, while the writing is ineffectual and dull.

If you want to see a living museum to the history of web design, this one’s for you. If not, stay away.
